Spudman was born Rick Moore in 1949, and raised in Cascade, Idaho where he began to play lap steel at age seven. He was in Elementary and Secondary school choirs and in Jr. High band. At age 15 he started the band “Twigz.”
In the early 1970s Spud worked with several bands, including “Homegrown,” “Jerusalem Sweetwater,” and “Brandnu.”
In 1976 he began his professional entertainment career by doing instrument repair and setup work. He worked as a member of an acoustic trio for three years, followed by two years as a member of a variety dance band.
In 1983 he moved from Idaho to Waco, Texas where he received an audio technology degree from McClennan Community College (and his infamous nickname). While completing his degree he continued to work in several bands and taught private lessons in Bass, Dobro, Mandolin, and Harmonica. Spud went on to become a teacher in the Commercial Music Program at MCC. He has continued to teach private guitar lessons for many students.
In 1985 Spud was hired as Bassist/Vocalist for the “Ronna Reeves Band” and spent two-and-a-half years touring nationally.
Spudman published two original songs with the Fred Morris Agency of Nashville, TN in 1987. He has also self-produced several influential albums in his career.
Spud co-formed “Zen Men” and was the band’s frontman and business manager. Today, Spudman works with “The Rockin’ Hippies” (Bassist and Backup Vocals) and “Fuzzy Tannin.”
Spudman continues to write music and perform locally. He has a jingle playing currently on local radio stations. He has also recently begun doing solo performances in various Boise, Meridian, and Mountain Home venues. He is currently working on a new album. His most recent album, “Tons of Spudman,” and an instrumental, easy listening album, “Idaho Dreams,” are available for purchase.
